ASBE Truck Mirror Design

Modeling
Project Overview
The ASBE Foundation or American Society of Body Engineers holds an annual competition for design that high-school students are able to participate in. It promotes design and engineering skills in accordance with the rules of the competition, the design challenge changes yearly. This was the project that I worked on for the 2020 competition

Sketches

For the 2020 ASBE competition we were required to design a truck mirror in accordance with a provided .step file of the door. I started this project by asking people in my life who owned trucks what aspects they would want to see incorporated into a truck mirror as well as took inspiration from existing mirrors to come up with my own design. At first I did a very rough sketch to get my ideas down which I then turned into a more simple and sleek drawing to model based off of.

Modeling

For this project I worked in Autodesk Inventor. This was an interesting challenge since I am not as familiar with that specific software. I was able to learn some new and interesting rendering techniques that turned out extremely well. I was able to keep the design very similar to my sketch and I was quite happy with the way it turned out. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 the competition was unable to complete however the challenge was extremely fun and I learned a lot from it.
